THRUST (ASTM A-1056)

This test is conducted with an apparatus as shown in Figure 4. The plain end of one steel pipe is machined to the maximum outside diameter tolerance; the other to the minimum. The plain ends are machined circumferentially with grooves 0.015" in depth (with an inclined angle of 60°) at 1/8" intervals over the area covered by the elastomeric gasket. The surface between the grooves is machined to 125 RMS. The machined pipe ends were joined with an MG COUPLING, torqued to 175 inch-pounds, and the assembly was filled with water. Hydrostatic pressure was applied at a rate of 1 psi every 30 seconds to the required target pressure and held for 10 minutes. Test requried no leakage or axial movement in excess of 0.150 inches.

MG COUPLING (sizes tested) Hydrostatic Pressure (psi) Movement (inches) Results
1½" 20 0.024 No Leakage Occurred
1½"x 2" 20 0.040 No Leakage Occurred
2" 20 0.046 No Leakage Occurred
3" 20 0.058 No Leakage Occurred
4" 20 0.105 No Leakage Occurred
5" 20 0.126 No Leakage Occurred
6" 18 0.077 No Leakage Occurred
8" 10 0.050 No Leakage Occurred
10" 6 0.053 No Leakage Occurred
